This group of drawings, mostly on frosted Mylar, are based on a sculpture I made, Long Boat, in 1982. The idea of this work stems from my interest in ancient boats — the earliest times that humans made vessels and set out on a river, a lake, or an ocean. I’m intrigued by the notion of displacement, both in the shape/design of the hull and the way boats played (and continue to play) a central role, for better or worse, in the history of the movement of peoples, societies, and cultures.
